University of Toronto Visiting Undergraduate Dental Students
- Students must be registered as full-time students in their undergraduate dental program – Canadian or International.
- Students will pay a fee based on duration of program.
- Must apply at least 4 months in advance (no exceptions) of the desired starting date.
- Must have a letter from the Dean or designate approving this as an elective rotation from their school.
- All students must comply with the current University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry infection control and immunization policies and if accepted must submit:
- Proof of current immunization – completed visiting student immunization form
- Hepatitis B antibody status
- TB immunization status
- Other – mask fit tests may be needed
- Students from other Canadian Dental Schools should have (and must show proof of) malpractice liability insurance protection from their School under the Canadian Universities Reciprocal Insurance Exchange. If not they must arrange for private coverage.
- International students who do not have proof of private health coverage for the duration of the elective must enrol in UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan)
- Students from another Faculty of Dentistry that has a formal exchange program with the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto such as ACTA will be considered to have the same rights and privileges as a University of Toronto Undergraduate Student in an equivalent year of study.
- All international students must have evidence of malpractice liability insurance, a document issued and signed by the insurance company. Document must include:
- Name and address of student
- Description and duration of the elective
- Information of where the student is registered
- Coverage that is provided
- Limit of liability
- Note students must obtain this insurance from their university or privately.
- It is expected students will be proficient in English.
- International students must comply with the immigration laws of Canada (as contained in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and in the regulations made in pursuance of that Act).
- International students (including those from the United States) are required by Canadian Immigration to undergo a medical examination done by a physician on Canada’s list of designated medical practitioners. This should be done at least two months prior to their arrival date.
- Funding is not available nor can we providing housing for elective students.
All electives placement will be dependent upon the availability of space during the requested period.
