Answering Clinical Questions Using
Evidence-based Methods
Since 1998, students at the University of Toronto have been assigned to
work in small groups to identify, find, critically appraise, synthesize, and communicate the evidence to support
clinical decision-making.
Usually the questions have been raised by dentists who have sent them into various
professional bodies. Other questions are derived by the instructors from what seem to be current issues in
dental practice.
The students have all passed a course in Clinical Epidemiology and each group is helped by
a trained facilitator. Each group presents its findings to other groups and prepares a written report. This
site contains the written reports completed since 2005.
