Message from the Director

It is a very exciting time in pain research as we are now at the threshold of new understanding of key issues in pain mechanisms and management that will serve to revolutionize the treatment of pain. It is my belief that the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain will serve as a model of interdisciplinary collaboration and will lead the way in educating generations of researchers so that the development of new ideas, new therapies and new strategies will continue to grow. As inaugural Director of the UTCSP, I am proud to be an integral part of this multidisciplinary centre of excellence and look forward to helping to fulfill the vision of building a strong and internationally important focus for research on pain.

Mission

The University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain is a partnership involving the Faculties of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. The mission of the Centre is to lead, both nationally and internationally, in pain research, education, and clinical activities.

Vision

The vision of the University of Toronto Centre for the Study of Pain is to be a model of interdisciplinary collaboration to create and disseminate knowledge about pain, and to promote excellence in scholarship.

Goals

	Foster research and scholarship leading to an understanding of the mechanisms of pain and its alleviation;
	Link research and education in pain so as to effect the dissemination and application of new knowledge in pain;
	Develop, implement, and su pport coordinated educational programs in pain at undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels;
	Foster a multi-disciplinary approach in clinical research activities in pain, including collaboration between basic and clinical science;
	Develop and provide continuing education programs for health care providers aimed at the dissemination of information derived from research and clinical evidence.
