About the Certificate

The first class is offered November 1-2, 2008

This program is intended for religious education teachers, leaders in Catholic education (e.g. existing and aspiring principals and vice principals), members of school chaplaincy teams, catechists, and others with a demonstrated interest in the study of scripture.

Classes seek to read and understand the biblical stories and teachings in their original Jewish cultural setting and historical context, using the many Jewish sources available as encouraged in light of the covenant in a post-Nostra Aetate world.

In Year I (2008-2009), the biblical themes will be based on the biblical texts of parable and other stories, relating the New and Old Testament applications and understandings, with special relevance for religious education classrooms and parish teaching opportunities.

Units of pre-study material will be sent to participants.
