Richard Carter

Helping students, faculty and other patrons conduct research is Richard’s main job. Yet this very job is itself made up of clamouring offspring: choosing resources for Celtic Studies, English, and German; teaching students how to find and evaluate print and web resources; assisting faculty with their Blackboard course sites; and creating and updating research guides and online tutorials. In addition to these duties, Richard is the liaison librarian for the Celtic Studies Program and the University of Toronto Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures and Department of Linguistics — so he welcomes any library questions that faculty in those departments may have.

Richard earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree in 1993 and a Master of Arts degree in 1998 from Carleton University. As an undergraduate student, Richard learned his trade at the Carleton University Library. He went on to study at the Faculty of Information Studies of the University of Toronto from which he received a Master of Information Studies degree in 2004. As a library student, he gained experience at the Data, Map, Government and Information Services Library, the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library), the University of Toronto Schools library, and the City of Toronto Archives. He joined the Kelly Library in 2004.

Besides nourishing a curiosity about online tutorials, Richard has a longstanding interest in poetry. He has had the following reviews published:
