Sorbara Hall Student Residence

Senior Undergraduate and Graduate Students

Opened: September 2001

Sorbara Hall

Population: primarily senior undergraduate population. 172 Single Rooms, 3 Doubles

Room Size: 11’ x 14'

Room Amenities: single bed, dresser, shelving, desk & chair, free phone service, free high-speed internet, swipe card security access, air conditioning, sink in each room.

Building Amenities: Five seperate "houses," each with a television room and shared washroom. Building also includes music and bike storage rooms.

Elmsley Hall

Undergraduate

Opened: 1957

Population: primarily freshmen residents with some upper year students. 51 double rooms, 47 single rooms (approximately 150 residents).

Room Size: 17.5' x 10' Elmsley Hall

Room Amenities: single bed, dresser, shelving, desk & chair, free phone service, free high-speed internet, swipe card security access. Double rooms will have two of each amenity.

Building Amenities: five floors, each with a common tv room and shared washrooms. The building also includes a laundry room, music practice room, bike storage room and 24 hour study hall.

Special Characteristics: Affectionately nicknamed "the bunker" for its infamous 16 inch thick walls, Elsmely is a favourite for many students and known for its very close-knit freshmen floors.

Queen's Park Building

More, Fisher & Teefy Houses

Opened: 1936

Fisher & More House

Population: primarily freshmen, with graduate students in the Teefy wing of the building. 21 Singles, 23 doubles (approximately 67 residents).

Room Size: varies considerably according to location and double vs. single

Room Amenities: single bed, dresser, shelving, desk & chair, free phone service, free high-speed internet, swipe-card security access. Double rooms will have two of each amenity.

Building Amenities: laundry rooms in the Fisher and More houses of the building and common television and washroom facilities in each seperate house (Fisher, More, Teefy).

Special Characteristics: More and Fisher Houses are known for their extremely close-knit communities and energetic participation in residence life, particularly in Dean's Cup sporting events. Both Houses are also known for many long-standing traditions that are maintained every year.

Teefy House

Teefy House forms the last part of the Queen's Park Buildings and is located at the south end of the building. Teefy is reserved exclusively for graduate and mature senior students. Located on the top floor and consisting of only 9 rooms, Teefy offers a scholarly & tranquil environment.

The Historic Houses

McCorkell, Sullivan, Gilson, Maritain

Opened: 1890 - 1910

Sullivan House

Population: mixture of freshmen and senior students. 20 singles, 12 doubles (approximately 44 residents).

Room Size: varies considerably according to single or double and individual buildings.

Room Amenities: single bed, dressers, shelving, desk & chair, free phone service, free high-speed wireless internet.

McCorkell House

Building Amenities: four distinct Victorian-era houses, each with its own common tv room and shared washroom.

Special Characteristics: Located on Toronto's first sub-division, these Victorian houses were built as private homes at the turn of the century but were gradually acquired by St. Michael's for College use. Each houseGilson and Maritain Houses is relatively small, with the largest (McCorkell - seen here) holding only 14 students. Many of the double rooms also contain fire places (not in use any longer). One of the houses, McCorkell, was also home to former Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin during his time at St. Mike's while Sullivan House was home to the offices of world-renowned philosopher Marshall McLuhan.
