Freshmen Residence Guarantee | Applying as an SMC Freshmen | Applying as a Professional Faculty Freshmen | What if I did not originally want residence but now I do? | Will you require disability related accommodation?
The University of Toronto guarantees a place in residence to all full-time students entering their first year of university in an undergraduate program, whether they live inside or outside metro Toronto, providing: (1) They indicate an interest in residence on their application for admission (OUAC 101 form) and (2) they are offered admission to their program of studies by July 1st.
To take advantage of the residence guarantee, simply indicate your interest in residence when you apply to UofT on your OUAC 101 form. You will then be sent information about residence automatically when you receive your offer of admisson from your Faculty or College. The process of assigning you to a residence differs a little bit depending on whether you are admitted as an Arts and Science Student, or whether you are admitted to a professional faculty. The two processess are explained in detail below.
Please note that if you are an Arts & Science freshmen from another UofT College (e.g. New, University, Trinity, Vic, etc), you are not eligible to live at St. Mike’s unless you change your College affiliation to St Mike's. To do this, please contact the SMC Registrar’s office: stmichaels.registrar@utoronto.ca
If you are an Arts and Science student and you want to live at St Michael's College, simply choose St Mike's as your first choice of College on your UofT application, and indicate that you are interested in residence. You will then be admitted to St Michael's College, and your request for residence will be sent to the SMC Dean of Students. SMC students who qualify for the freshmen residence guarantee (i.e. who indicated an interest in residence on the OUAC form and are admitted to the UofT by July 1), will receive an offer of residence by email within two weeks of their admission to the College. Those who wish to accept this offer must return their required forms, along with a non-refundable $500 deposit, to the office of the Dean of Students by the specified due date. Failure to submit the deposit by the deadline will nullify the offer of residence, and that space will be offered to the next person on our waiting list. SMC students who are admitted after July 1 are not eligible for the freshmen residence guarantee but every effort will be made to house them at St. Michael's College (as space permits).
If you will be enrolled in a professional faculty (e.g. Engineering, Music, Phys. Ed, etc.) and you want to live at St. Michael's College, simply indicate your interest in residence on your initial application to UofT, and then select St. Michael's College as your first choice of residence on the "Residence Preference" form which your faculty will send you. St. Michael's College reserves a fixed number of spaces for Professional Faculty students every year and gives priority to those who indicate our College as their first choice.
If you did not indicate an interest in residence on your initial OUAC form but have changed your mind since then, please contact the Office of Admissions as soon as possible. Your admission information will then be forwarded to the Office of the Dean of Students, and we will consider your application only after all those who qualify for the residence guarantee have been admitted. This may mean that the residence is already full by the time your application is received, in which case the Dean will place your name on a short list and contact you as soon as space becomes available. For more information about the freshmen guarantee, please contact the University of Toronto Office of Admissions, 315 Bloor Street West, (416) 978-2190; or visit our website at: www.adm.utoronto.ca
