SMC Residence: Residence Life
Whether it's one of our athletic teams, the monthly "Kelly's Korner" talent nights, our massive student council parties (the biggest at UofT) or just spending time with other residents, there is always something to do and new friends to make. Check out some of the things happening at St. Michael's College
Don't miss the legendary SMC parties, the biggest and by far the best at UofT. Most of the events are held in the "club district" of Toronto (near Queen & Richmond Streets) with SMC renting and taking over an entire club for the night. Parties have also taken place in the past at "the docks" and at various pubs along College Street. These events are known for attracting students from all over the University of Toronto. Some of the parties and pubs held this past year were:
The SMC Residence Council (SMRC) represents all of the students in residence. The Council organizes the Dean's Cup sports tournaments, as well as many other events throughout the year, including the Mardi Gras Party and the residence "mixers."
The SMRC also serves as the official representatives of the residence body to the Dean of Students.
St. Mike’s has a long and proud tradition
of athletics and each year the various residence
houses compete for the coveted Dean's Cup in
a number of sports including street hockey,
softball, volleyball, soccer, & ultimate Frisbee. The
competition runs throughout the entire year.
St. Mike’s also has a complete weight
room / exercise room that can be used by residence
students for a nominal $25 fee.
We also have many teams that compete competitively
with other divisions within the University
of Toronto. This year our Football and Ruby
teams were UofT champions! Some other teams
include:
A St. Mike’s tradition for almost 50 years, Kelly’s Korner is a monthly open-mic talent show held on the last Wednesday night of every month in the Brennan Hall Lounge. Catch the next big up-and-coming band or comedian right here.
Amateurs are definitely welcome!!

The
St. Michael's College Student Union (SMCSU)
is the representative body of all students
at St. Michael's College, including residence
students. They plan a number of events throughout
the year, including a number of massive parties
in the "club district" of Toronto with various
themes such as the infamous "toga party".
SMCSU also is responsible for intramural
athletics and cultural events that take place
each year, including the yearly musical and
drama society productions.
Since 1947, “The Mike” has been the student voice at SMC. The Mike is one of the most widely circulated and read newspapers of the UofT Colleges. New contributions are always welcome!
The paper includes sections on everything from SMC news, sports, politics, opinions as well as movie reviews, cartoons and editorials. The paper is published by-weekly and is entirely owned, operated and financed by the SMC student body. If you are interested, pick up a copy at the beginning of the year and get involved!!
Each year the Drama Society at St. Mike's produces musicals and plays which are entered in various competitions throughout the UofT. Students are also very active in the Annual UofT Film Festival.
Over the years, SMC has built a solid reputation for producing successful productions and have won several awards and competitions.
This past year SMC produced "Baby The Musical" and a play called "Uninvited." SMC students also produced a film for the University of Toronto Film Festival.
SMC has a long tradition of giving back to
the community and helping those in need. Each week the students of our College give up countless
number of hours to help prepare meals for the
homeless through our Out of the Cold Program.
The SMC Residence donated over $1500 cash and over 1800 food items to the local food bank. The residents of Sorbara 1st (pictured here) sang on the corner of Bloor and Bay Street this past year to raise money for the Annual Dean's Food Drive. Also this year, the annual Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction raised another $2000 for The Good Shepherd Center for the homeless.
Each year the individual residence houses elect a House Council that is in charge of planning and organizing events for the year. Events in the past have included trips to Toronto Raptors/Leafs/Blue Jays/Argonauts games, trips to concerts, house parties, pool tournaments, ski trips, floor suppers, movie nights, trivia tournaments, x-box tournaments and a number of other activities.

Each house will design a floor t-shirt and logo for their year (pictured right, the floor logo for Elmsley First (2005-2006). A house picture will also be taken for the year which is permanently hung on the floor.
