The Canada Millennium Foundation established the Millennium Excellence Award Program (in-course) to recognize and foster academic excellence, creative leadership and active citizenship opportunities for students already enrolled in university and who are entering their last two years of university studies.
These awards will be presented to students who demonstrate exceptional merit without regard to financial need. The emphasis for award selection includes:
- active and significant service towards the betterment of community
- leadership and the ability to motivate others
- an interest in innovation
- solid academic performance

Conditions of eligibility:
- be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant
- have been a full-time student (defined as 80 per cent of a full courseload enrolment) during the Fall 2007 - Winter 2008 Winter Sessions
- have finished /or will have completed the second year – but not the third year of their undergraduate program leading to a first degree (between 8.5 and 13.0 full-course equivalents) by May 2008
- have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 in Fall 2007 - Winter 2008 Sessions
- demonstrate an active and significant involvement toward the betterment of the community, leadership and the ability to motivate others, and an interest in innovation
- may not have received more than $3,500 to date in scholarship money based solely on merit regardless of the source of the scholarship (e.g., school, government, private source, etc.)
Value:
- up to *100 - $5000 scholarships renewable for one additional year
- up to *200 - $4000 scholarships renewable for one additional year
- up to *900 - $4000 one year scholarships

NOTE: Students are required to send an official transcript to the University of Toronto, Office of Admissions and Awards, 315 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON M5S 1A3. (Any transcripts from transfer institutions should also be sent to the above-mentioned address.)
The University of Toronto will review online applications of all students and select those for nomination who meet the award criteria.
The deadline for submission of all nominations to the Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation by Admissions and Awards is June 27, 2008.
Successful candidates will be notified by September 2008
