St. Michael's College Foundation Admission Scholarships
These non-renewable admission scholarships, which are merit-based, vary from $1500 to $5,000. To be eligible, students must choose St. Michael’s College as their first choice of college in the Faculty of Arts and Science. Students are automatically considered based upon a mid-high 90s admission average. No application is required. Scholarship offers are mailed with the offers of admission.
Value: $500
Terms: Sponsored by the Wong Family, this award will be given to a graduate of Loretto Abbey with a high mid-year average on admission. The award will be applied as a credit on tuition fees. All eligible applicants to St. Michael's College will automatically be considered for this award.
Application: Since eligible candidates will be considered automatically, no application is necessary.
The Queen Elizabeth II Admission Scholarship (OSOTF) (Renewable)
Value: $2,000 per year ($8,000 over four years)
Purpose: Established by gracious permission of Her Majesty the Queen, the purpose of this award is to encourage, in an undergraduate student, a loyal appreciation of the role of the Monarchy or, more specifically, of the Queen (or King) of Canada and her or his predecessors in Canadian history, government, and society.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered.
Eligible candidates will have at least a high 80s average on admission and will have indicated St. Michael’s College as their first choice of college on their OUAC application form. Applicants must include a 250 – 300 word statement regarding the Monarchy’s role in contemporary Canada. This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition fees.
Terms: This scholarship will be renewed if all of the following conditions are met: (1) recipient continues to demonstrate financial need, (2) recipient maintains an annual grade point average (AGPA) of 3.50 on a total of 5.0 full course equivalents in the fall/winter sessions, and (3) recipient returns to full-time studies (i.e. 5.0 full course equivalents) at St. Michael's College in the following fall/winter sessions.

The Doris Anne Davies Admission Scholarship (OSOTF)
Value: $700 - $1000
Purpose: To honour the memory of Doris Anne Davies and her commitment to higher education.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered.
Eligible candidates will have at least a high 80s average on admission and will have indicated St. Michael’s College as their first choice of college in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

The Karlo Duvnjak Family Scholarship (OSOTF)
Value: $1,500 - $2,500
Purpose: Sponsored by the Karlo Duvnjak Family, this scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance for tuition and/or residence fees to a first-year St. Michael’s College student who has financial need. Preference will be given to applicants who are:
a) Croatian scholar athletes, or of
b) Croatian background, or of
c) German background
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered.
Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their parish priest. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition and/or residence fees.

The Matthew O'Brien Memorial Scholarship (OSOTF)
(offered in years when there is an eligible candidate)
Value: undetermined
Purpose: The University of St. Michael's College and the University of Toronto, in conjunction with the sponsorship by the Catholic Children's Aid Society's "Hope for Children Foundation", play a key role in awarding the Matthew O'Brien Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was established by Michael and Mary-Catherine O'Brien, in memory of their son, Matthew. The scholarship is awarded to a first-year St. Michael's College student who is a ward of the Catholic Children's Aid Society.

The Robert J. and Mary Catherine (Ware) Birgeneau Scholarship (OSOTF)
Value: $2,500
Purpose: Sponsored by Robert J. and Mary Catherine (Ware) Birgeneau, this scholarship is intended to provide for half of the total annual fees of a first-year student registered at St. Michael’s College.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered. This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition fees.
In addition, preference will be given to students with high academic standing from the following parishes in the following order of priority:
(1) St. Helen’s Parish, Toronto
(2) St. Anthony’s Parish, Toronto
(3) any other parish in the downtown urban core of Toronto
(4) any other parish in Ontario

The Clayton W. Kehoe Memorial Scholarship
Value: $3,000 ($1,500 Renewable for three years)
Purpose: To honour the memory of Mr. Clayton W. Kehoe and his commitment to higher education. The purpose of the award is to give young men and women the opportunity to successfully pursue degrees in Humanities or Social Sciences.
Criteria: Priority is given to applicants from Ontario in the following order:
(1) Grey-Bruce County
(2) Parry Sound
(3) Toronto
Terms: This scholarship has a value of $3000 in first year ($2,000 tuition + $1,000 residence fees). This scholarship will be renewed if both of the following conditions are met:
(1) the recipient achieves a minimum annual grade point average (AGPA) of 3.50 in a full-time courseload at the end of the academic year in which the recipient is enrolled at St. Michael’s College, (2) recipient returns to full-time studies at St. Michael’s College in the following fall/winter sessions. The scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition fees.
The Melissa Clubbe Memorial Admission Scholarship
Value: $2,000
Terms: Sponsored by the Clubbe Family in memory of their daughter, Melissa, this scholarship will be awarded to a first-year St. Michael’s College student who intends to pursue a program in the Humanities and Social Sciences and who has a high average on admission. Eligible candidates must have indicated St. Michael’s as their first choice of college in the Faculty of Arts & Science.
Other Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered. This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition fees.
The Sister St. John Entrance Awards
Value: $1,000
Purpose:To honour the memory of Sister St. John O’Malley who served as a revered and respected Professor of Classics at St. Michael’s College for over forty years.
Criteria: Sponsored by the Sister St. John O’Malley Fund, these entrance awards are designed to recognize students who have shown strong academic performance at the high school level, and who intend to enrol in at least one course in the Christianity and Culture Program in their first year of full-time study (i.e. full 5.0 course equivalents) at St. Michael’s College.
Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered. These awards will be credited to the recipients’ tuition fees.
The letter of introduction must explain briefly the applicant’s interest in taking a course in the Christianity and Culture program. The applicant may include a statement regarding extra-curricular activities in which she/he participated throughout high school.
The Catholic Women’s League of Canada Admission Scholarship
(2008 Fall-2009 Winter Sessions)
Value: $2,000
Criteria: Sponsored by the Catholic Women's League of Canada, this scholarship will be awarded to a woman, with a high mid-term average on admission, who is pursuing studies in the liberal arts. Eligible candidates must have indicated St. Michael's as their first choice of college in the Faculty of Arts of Science.
Application: Applications for the 2008 Fall – 2009 Winter Sessions are available through the candidate's parish Catholic Women's League and must be submitted to the following address:

The Principal Joseph Boyle Entrance Scholarship
Value: $2,500
Purpose: On the occasion of Professor Joseph Boyle's retirement in June 2002, this scholarship is to honour his years of dedicated service as Principal of the College. This scholarship will be awarded to a St. Michael's College student who has a high average on admission, who will be entering St. Michael's College from a Catholic secondary school anywhere in Ontario, and who has financial need.

The Pope Benedict XVI Admission Scholarship (OSOTF)
Value: $2,000
Purpose: Established in observance of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the supreme pontificate of Pope John Paul II, this scholarship is to encourage in a student of St. Michael’s College a devoted appreciation of the ministry of the Roman Pontiff as Successor of St. Peter and Chief Bishop of Christ’s Holy Catholic Church.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered.
Eligible candidates will have at least a high 80s average on admission and will have indicated St. Michael’s College as their first choice of college in the Faculty of Arts and Science. This scholarship will be credited to the recipient’s tuition fees.

New Policy: St. Michael’s College/C.L. Burton Trust Fund In-Course Scholarships
Value: annual income
Purpose: To recognize the academic achievement of students registered at St. Michael’sCollege.
Criteria: Awarded to SMC students who qualify at end of the fall-winter session or at the end of the summer session in which they complete their 5th, 10th or 15th credit. Students must have completed a minimum of 4.0 credits while registered at SMC.
Students qualifying at the end of a fall/winter session in which they have completed at least 4.0 credits must have an annual grade point average (AGPA) of 3.70 or greater.
Students qualifying at the end of a fall/winter session in which they have completed fewer than 4.0 credits and students qualifying at the end of a summer session must have a grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or greater based on all the courses taken during the sessions in which their most recent four credits were completed.
Please note that courses designated as “extra” will not be counted.
Recipients must continue their studies in the next session in order to receive the award.
Terms: The total value of this scholarship will vary from year to year depending on the number of students who are eligible.
Application: These scholarships are awarded automatically. No application is necessary. Eligible students receiving an in-course scholarship will be notified by mail in late summer.
The Victoria Mueller-Carson In-Course Scholarship (OSOTF)
Value: $1,200 - $1,500
Purpose: To honour the late Victoria Mueller-Carson and in recognition of her long service to St. Michael’s College as professor and head of the Department of German, and to encourage and recognize excellence in the study of German.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). Students receiving OSAP funding will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered.
Applicants must be enrolled in a major or specialist program in German, or in at least two German courses per year, and must be registered in full-time studies at St. Michael’s College in the fall-winter sessions.

The Sister St. John In-Course Scholarships

Value: $1,500

The Irene J. McGovern and John Ward McGovern In-Course Scholarship
Open to students registered at St Michael's College only.
(2008 Fall – 2009 Winter Sessions)
Value: $5,000
Criteria: A bequest of Irene J. McGovern and John Ward, this scholarship will be awarded to a St. Michael's College student enrolling in the second or any subsequent year of an undergraduate program, and whose course of study involves a concentration or major focus in Celtic Studies. Student must have a high academic achievement, particularly in the areas of Celtic History and Literature.

The Lawrence E. Lynch In-Course Scholarship in Philosophy
Please note that this scholarship is different from the Professor Lawrence E. Lynch Memorial Scholarship - they are two distinctly different scholarships.

Eligible candidates must have all of the following criteria: (1) obtained an annual grade point average of 3.70 (AGPA) or greater in the fall-winter sessions prior to the award, (2) be enrolled in a major or specialist program in Philosophy.

The W.B. Dunphy In-Course Scholarship

Purpose: Sponsored by the Dunphy Family this award is to honour the late Professor W.B. Dunphy in recognition of his long service to St. Michael’s College as professor and principal of the College, and to encourage and recognize excellence in the study of Mediaeval Studies.
This scholarship is awarded to second, third or fourth year St. Michael’s College student who is enrolled in a minor, major or specialist program in Mediaeval Studies. Good academic standing will also be considered.
In the event that there is no suitable candidate from the Mediaeval Studies program, preference will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a minor, major or specialist program in Philosophy, or Celtic Studies, or Christianity and Culture (not necessarily in that order).

Criteria: This prize will be awarded to a St. Michael's College full-time student who is entering their third or fourth year of study in the fall-winter sessions, and is enrolled in a major or specialist program in English, and whose course of study involves a concentration in the area of English Literature. Student must have completed a total of 5.0 full course equivalents with a minimum annual grade point average (AGPA) of 3.7 or better in the fall/winter sessions prior to the award. The David and Mary Agnes Bennett Fund Scholarship

- SMC third-year students

The Marie Juliette Fischette Memorial Scholarship (OTSS)
Value: $1500 - $2,000
Purpose: Sponsored by Joseph A. Fischette, in memory of his wife, Marie Juliette Fischette, this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a deserving 2nd, 3rd or 4th year St. Michael’s College students in full-time attendance.
Criteria: Preference will be given to a St. Michael’s College student who is completing a major or specialist in Italian Studies. In the event that there is no suitable candidate, preference will be given to a student enrolled in the French Studies program. Preference will be given to a student with an academic grade point average of B+ (3.3 GPA) or higher. Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). The St. Michael’s College GRADitude Scholarship

Purpose: Sponsored by the donors to the 1997, 2004 and 2005 St. Michael’s College GRADitude Campaigns, this scholarship is to provide financial assistance for tuition or residence fees to a St. Michael’s College undergraduate student of any year level.

The Hon. Fabian A. O’Dea Geography Scholarship
Value: $800 - $1,000
Established by the O’Dea Family, in memory of their father, the Honourable Fabian O’Dea, Memorial Alumnus, Rhodes Scholar, Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland, and recipient of honorary degrees from both Memorial and the Law Society of Newfoundland, and to commemorate Dr. O’Dea’s work in Newfoundland cartography, this scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to a St. Michael’s College full-time student who is enrolled in a major or specialist in geography. Preference will be given to a student who meets the above criteria, is registered with Accessibility Services, and/or has a demonstrated interest in cartography.
Criteria: Applicants must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated financial need. Students receiving Ontario Student Assistance Program funding; Canada Student Loan, or other government student aid will be given priority; however, other cases of financial need will be considered. Established by the estate of Anna Mary Bridget Loftus, these scholarships

Criteria: Applicants must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated financial need. The Gerald J. Leahy Award in Chemistry Studies
Value: $450 - $500
Established by Gerald J. Leahy, this award is intended to recognize Mr. Leahy’s appreciation for the contribution that the University of St. Michael’s College made to his career while at the same time promoting the study of Chemistry.
Criteria: This scholarship is awarded to a full-time St. Michael’s College student who is pursuing a major or a specialist program in Chemistry. Applicants must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated financial need. Student receiving Ontario Student Assistance Program funding; Canada Student Loan, or other government student aid will be given priority; however other cases of financial need will be considered. Purpose: Sponsored by the C.D. Howe Foundation, these residence scholarships are awarded to St. Michael's College first-year students to begin their undergraduate education in one of the college residences.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). The Hubert Sceats Memorial Residence Scholarships (OSOTF)

Purpose: Sponsored by the late Hubert Sceats, these residence scholarships are awarded to St. Michael's College first-year students to begin their undergraduate education in one of the college residences.
Criteria: Applicants must be Ontario residents and must have demonstrated financial need (according to U of T criteria, financial need is determined by the receipt of Ontario Student Assistance Program funding). The Celtic Studies Scholarships for Summer Study

Three gold medals are awarded to students with the highest cumulative grade point average upon graduation in Humanities/Social Sciences, Sciences, and Commerce and Finance.

The Principal's Medal is awarded annually to a graduating student at St. Michael's College who made a distinctive contribution to life at the College. The Father H.B. Gardner Campus Ministry Community Life Awards

In honour of Father Harry B. Gardner’s many years of service in SMC Chaplaincy, these awards are given to St. Michael’s College students graduating in November or June, and who have contributed greatly to the life of the college through their service in various chaplaincy events, liturgies and social justice projects consistently during their time at St. Michael’s. These awards are through nomination by the SMC Chaplains.
The Ambassador of Switzerland Book Awards
