PURPOSE
The Diploma in Eastern Christian Studies is designed to provide a broad theological, historical and pastoral grounding in the Eastern Christian tradition. It may be pursued as an independent program or concurrently with any basic degree program.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
Students registered through the Faculty of Theology of the University of St. Michael's College must take a minimum of three units of study from Regis College in order to earn the diploma.
CURRICULUM
The ten (10) units of study are distributed as follows:
- 1 unit, SMH 1010 History of Christianity I (to AD 843).
- 1 unit, RGT 3563 Eastern Christian Doctrines.
- 1 unit, SMB1501 Introduction to the New Testament or SMB 1007 Introduction to the Old Testament.
- 2 units in Pastoral Theology. Students are strongly encouraged to take SMP 1600 Introduction to Ministry.
- 5 units in Eastern Christian Studies. Consult program director.
N.B. The major or research essay in the Biblical and Pastoral units should be on a theme, idea, person, event, etc. with relevance to Eastern Christianity. Upon successful completion of each unit, the name of the course as well as the title and subject of the essay must be submitted to the student’s director.
FURTHER STUDY
For qualified students, courses done as part of any of the above three diploma programs may be transferred to degree programs should they decide later to enrol in one.
